Every year our Ft Walton Beach, FL branch visits the Florida State Mental Hospital and delivers presents to the residents. In fact, branch manager Michael Castleberry is Santa!
On Friday December 3rd, The Mental Health Association of Okaloosa & Walton Counties traveled Florida State Mental Hospital. BOE Mortgage, Ft Walton took about 700 bags of presents for all of the residents of the hospital and threw a Christmas party. They brought over 13 sheet cakes, 500 cookies, 8 cases of oranges, juices and yogurts to hand out during the party, during this time Castleberry and a co-Santa dressed up for the residents to sit next to them, get their picture taken and to tell them what they'd like for Christmas. Their request for Christmas ranged from being able to get out so they can be with family to millions of dollars. Michael Castleberry said “Some of the residents that sit with you leave you in tears and some make you smile with joy because they have such great attitude. This will be my 4th year as Santa Clause and is the most humbling thing I do all year. I’ve been on the board for the MHA now for 2 years and we are like most community 501C-3’s that struggle to raise enough funds every year to help support everyone from school mental programs for kids to our homeless Veteran’s”.
